Turnaround Management

Technology spend is easy to cut. Knowing what it's holding up is the hard part.

Turnaround timelines don't allow for discovery projects. You need to know quickly what the technology costs, what it is actually supporting, and where money can come out without stopping the business.

See Technology Risk & Cost Recovery.

What That Looks Like

A fast read, not a discovery project

What the environment costs, what is carrying real risk, and which line items can come out — in business terms, on a timeline that matches the engagement rather than a technical inventory nobody has time to read.

Cost that can actually come out

Duplicate licensing, contracts nobody renegotiated, capacity bought for a business that has since changed shape. Recurring spend is usually where the recoverable money is.

What the business is standing on

The systems that would stop operations if they failed, and which of them are running on borrowed time. Cutting the wrong line item is how a cost exercise becomes an outage.

Support for the firm and its clients

We support turnaround firms directly, including consultants working from client sites, and step into client environments on an as-needed basis when an engagement calls for it. Guardian is also a co-host of the local Turnaround Management Association social, which is how we know most of the people doing this work here.

What We've Found

In a review of a manufacturing client's environment, we identified opportunities for cost savings exceeding the annual cost of managed services — alongside single points of failure the business had been carrying without knowing it.

Findings are only useful if they arrive in business terms while there is still room to act on them.

Sometimes the recommendation is to spend nothing. Sometimes it is that a system everyone assumed was fine is the largest risk on the list. In a turnaround, an advisor being told what they want to hear is worse than useless, so we say what we found and what we would do about it.

Guardian Computer has worked with my firm, MorrisAnderson, for over 20 years. They not only provide full-service IT to my firm and our traveling consulting team but also to various clients of our firm on an as-needed basis. They proactively advise me of issues and fix problems fast.
